T45 - Iron Ore car Dumper No 1 - Port Hedland

Contract Objective

Commencing in January 2007 through to completion in February 2008, the scope of works included the construction of the T45 Car Dumper-vault level, apron feeder level, trunion level, rail drive level, ingo and outgo foundations and double conveyor tunnels. The contract objective was to construct within budget and ahead of the approved baseline programme.

Construction Quantities

110 c/m blinding installed. 7504 sq/m setout of structural formwork installed including false work and supports. 904 tonnes of reinforced steel installed. 5905 cu/m of structural concrete poured.

Project Achievements

Contracted works completed four weeks ahead of schedule. Contracted works completed within the allocated budget. No environmental incidents reported. Ten audits completed to 100% compliance. Outstanding safety performance with just one lost time injury from 25-40 personnel onsite and a total of 104,860 man hours.

Project Challenges

Duration for mobilisation to site was just three weeks. Craneage and logistics required flexibility of sequence and program of works to align with client requirements. Wet season disruption to works progress on three separate occasions. Weather affected construction program impacting on-site with a greater interface with other contractors.
